Shalis Shudis: Back for the New Year Shabbat Afternoon • First Day Sukkot: October 3, 2009 at 6:15 PM Our first Shalis Shudis of the new year will be on Shabbat afternoon, October 3rd at 6:15 PM.
It is traditional on Shabbat to eat three meals. The first meal is on Friday night as we gather together to bring Shabbat into our homes with candle lighting, Kiddush and motzi. After Shabbat morning services, we eat our second meal with Kiddush and motzi.
And the third meal, called in Hebrew Seudat Sheleesheet or Shalis Shudis in Yiddish, is held late on Shabbat afternoon before Maariv and Havdalah.
Since it is the first day of Sukkot we will have our meal in the Beth El Sukkah. Ira friedlander will sponsor the October Shalis Shudis in memory of both his parents: Dr. Herbert N. Friedlander and Mrs. Sophie T. Friedlander.
Once again, we warmly thank Susan Alfonso and Arlene Miller who volunteer to prepare our superb Shalis Shudis meal. Todah Rabbah to each of them.
We will begin by davening Mincha with congregants reading Torah. Then we will have the traditional third meal beginning with the motzi over challah. During our meal, we will sing zemirot and Rabbi Grundfast will offer a short study session. The meal is concluded with Birkat Hamazon, the blessing after meals.
We then daven Maariv and conclude the evening with the beautiful Havdalah service.
All that we ask is that you RSVP so we will know how much food to prepare. You may RSVP to Rabbi Grundfast at the synagogue by phone 330.864.2105 ×114 or via his e-mail, sgrundfast@gmail.com.
