Jewish and Public Affairs Forum-Terry Pluto-October 16

Terry Pluto, sports columnist for the Cleveland Plain Dealer, will join Beth El Congregation on Friday evening, October 16 for the first in this year’s series of Jewish and Public Affairs Forums. Mr. Pluto’s topic will be “Everyday Faith,” about which he has
written both in several books and in newspaper columns. Formerly a sports and faith columnist for the Akron
Beacon Journal, Mr. Pluto has twice been honored by the Associated Press Sports Editors as the nation’s top sports columnist for medium-sized newspapers. A nine-time winner of the Ohio Sports Writer of the Year award, he has also received more than 50 state and local writing awards. Among the 23 books he has authored are The Curse of Rocky Colavito, selected by the New York Times as one of the five notable sports books of 1989, and Loose Balls, which was ranked number 13 on Sports Illustrated’s list of the top 100 sports books of all time. In 1997 the Chicago Tribune called him “Perhaps the best American writer of sports books.” Mr. Pluto and his wife Roberta reside in Akron.
The Jewish and Public Affairs Forum evening will begin with Shabbat dinner at 6:15 P.M. Prepaid reservations are required. Kabbalat Shabbat services will begin at 7:30 P.M., followed by Mr. Pluto’s presentation. The evening will conclude with an Oneg Shabbat.
The evening is open to the community; there is no charge for services and the Oneg Shabbat.
