Hanukkah-Shabbat Dinner
December 7th – 6:15 PM
Shabbat Service at 7:30 PM
Joe Kanfer
Special Guest Speaker
Beth El will hold its annual Hanukkah dinner this year on Shabbat evening, Friday, December 7th – but with a few new spins (of the dreidle)! This evening will be the first in
a three-part series entitled “The Jewish and Public Affairs Forum” with Joe Kanfer as guest speaker. Joe is Chairman and CEO of GOJO Industries in Akron and is active in
many local and national Jewish organizations. He currently serves as Chair of United Jewish Communities.
The three forums aim to bring the Beth El community together for a traditional Shabbat dinner, prayer, a special speaker and discussion, and a delicious Oneg Shabbat sponsored by Beth El Sisterhood. The entire evening, which is open to the community, will begin with Shabbat dinner at 6:15 p.m., underwritten by the Osherow Family Foundation established by Carl and Thelma Osherow, and will be followed by services at 7:30 p.m., the presentation by Joe Kanfer, recognition of the teachers, and the Oneg
Shabbat.
The second program in “The Jewish and Public Affairs Forum” will feature Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic on February 8th, and the third forum on April 11th will be presented by Daniel Flowers, Executive Director of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank. Both of these programs will also be preceded by Shabbat dinner and services, and Beth El Sisterhood will again sponsor the Oneg Shabbat.
In the spirit of Hanukkah, the holiday of dedication, Beth El will honor all the teachers who are so dedicated to the Jewish students of Beth El Congregation, including teachers
and staff at Beth El Academy and Beth El members who teach at the Shaw JCC Pre-school, the Lippman Jewish Day School and the Akron Jewish Community Hebrew High
School. Each teacher will be presented with a gift from the congregation. Teachers to be recognized for their contributions to the education of Jewish children include:
